5 warmest beaches in the Algarve

If there's one thing the Algarve doesn't lack, it's sun and beach. However, in the same way that each beach has its own specificities, the sea also behaves differently from beach to beach. So, if you are looking for the warmest beaches in the Algarve for your holidays, we can give you a helping hand.

The truth is that despite the wild beauty of the beaches of the Western region or the medicinal properties of the rugged beaches of the North, few people like to put one foot in the sea water and feel their whole body freeze. So, there's nothing like a good swim in the sea in warm waters.

In the case of the Algarve, it is in the eastern region, also known as Sotavento, that the beaches with the most inviting, that is, warmest, water, are found. So, find out with us which are the warmest beaches in the Algarve and, who knows, this is where you decide where you go on holiday.

THE 5 WARMEST BEACHES IN THE ALGARVE

1

Ancão Beach, Loulé

The municipality of Loulé has a very diverse tourist offer: Moorish streets, its sweet honey, the delicious arbutus brandy, the tasty almond and fig cakes and, of course, the fishing activities of the region. Here, you'll also find some of the most luxurious accommodation in the Algarve, such as Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago.

Praia do Ancão is located in the Ria Formosa Natural Park and is characterized by an extensive sandy beach and vast dune fields, full of aromatic plants. It has ample parking space, beach support services and surveillance during the bathing season.

There is tarmac road access from Almancil, towards Garrão/Ancão, for 7 kilometres. Through the tourist resort, a 1.5-kilometre dirt road begins.

2

Barreta, Faro

The municipality of Faro encompasses the peninsula of Ancão and the islands of Barreta (Deserta) and Culatra. The Ria Formosa Natural Park is also present here, a symbol of remarkable ecological biodiversity.

The beaches of Ilha Deserta are some of the most beautiful in the Algarve and have waters with very inviting temperatures. There is support and surveillance equipment during the bathing season. Take the boat from Faro (Cais da Porta Nova, with ample parking near the pier).

3

Fuseta Beach, Olhão

The municipality of Olhão has five beaches, located in the heart of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Fuseta Beach is located in the western part of Armona Island, in front of the village of Fuseta. Its sand is extensive and deserted, and benefits from the formation of natural pools at low tide. There are beach support services and surveillance during the bathing season.

Access to this warmest beach in the Algarve is by boat, from Fuseta Pier, with ample parking next to the pier.

4

Cabanas, Tavira

The coastline of the municipality of Tavira is sandy, with fine sand and warm water. On its eastern side is Ilha de Cabanas, located on a narrow strip of sand that extends to the Cacela bar.

Its beach is located exactly in front of the village of Cabanas, with support and surveillance services during the bathing season. This is a region of good gastronomy, where you can (and should) taste delicacies such as oysters, clams, octopus or grilled fish.

Access by boat from the pier, on the Cabanas waterfront. Don't worry about the car as there is plenty of parking.

5

Cacela Velha, Vila Real de Santo António

This municipality extends along the coastal strip, between Tavira and Castro Marim to the mouth of the Guadiana River. Its beaches have calm and warm waters, so they attract many tourists in the bathing season.

Cacela Velha Beach is located at the eastern end of Cabanas Island, near the Cacela bar. In 2015, it was considered one of the 15 best beaches in the world, by the Spanish version of "Traveler" magazine.

The only less positive aspect is that it does not have beach support or surveillance during the bathing season. Go by boat from the pier of Sítio da Fábrica, about 1.5 kilometers from Cacela Velha. You can park next to the pick-up point.

As you can see, the choice is varied. They are the warmest beaches in the Algarve, but it will certainly not be only the temperature of the water that makes you decide for one or the other. Each of these beaches has its own surroundings, some charms that go far beyond the tourist agglomerations. Therefore, discovering these beaches can be the first step to getting to know a different Algarve.
