Cascais, a place belonging to the sea

The old guides reduce cascades to a fishing village that now catches tourists instead of fish. But this city that thrives from the ocean has a lot to offer to those who visit and even more so to those who choose to stay and live there. He became the bait for himself.

It is said that it was the electrification of the railway line, in 1926, that gave Cascais the leading role in the creation of the so-called Costa do Sol, a worthy rival to the pleasant south of France, capable of starting a duel with any seaside resort and coming out the winner. Truly Cascais has everything you need, and for decades the city has become synonymous with good living, full of luxury or not, in sight of the sea and sealed with quality. Without being crowded, this city has everything good.

The county starts a few kilometers away, with the completely different beaches of Carcavelos and Parede and a large promenade that extends from S. João do Estoril to the center of Cascais, following with a bike path and a walkway to the rough sea of Guincho,   A place blessed with surfers. But, let's face it, all waves lead to Cascais.

Old spaces have been remodeled, parks have been improved, ruins resulting from time and willful or involuntary neglect have been restored. The Marina was created, giving Cascais a port for boats and tours, the Museum Quarter was created to concentrate exhibition spaces such as the Cultural Centre, the House of Stories – Paula Rego and the Museum of the Sea, and the main attractions of nightlife were brought together by the water,   making sure that the city center has become a combination of old and new to be experienced during the day, whether for its gastronomy or diversified commerce.

By train, Cascais is a promise of small palaces, especially in Monte Estoril. And in Estoril itself, the idea of fun has its peak in the famous Casino and in the nighttime summer joy that shakes the sands of Tamariz beach. The ocean offers us the best seafood to be enjoyed on terraces where it is believed that the sun lives in Cascais. You will enjoy days of fishing and eating, luxury and charming hotels, bathing and playing, art and of course the Santini ice creams.
