Portugal has 5 beaches distinguished by The Guardian

Portugal has 5 beaches distinguished by The Guardian, and two are close to Lisbon

The Guardian has republished the best European beaches and five of the 40 selected are nationwide. Are we going to know which ones?

Portugal tem 5 praias distinguidas pelo The Guardian, e duas ficam perto de Lisboa

Once again, the distinctive publication The Guardian once again selects its 40 best European beaches, a choice made by its travel reporters.

We recall that in 2019, this publication had already selected The Beach of Galapinhos, in Arrábida in Setúbal.

The great novelty of this year is that you chose five new Portuguese beaches to appear in this top, where you will find some of the best beaches, not only in Europe but also in the whole world.

The Portuguese beaches:

Cacela Velha Beach (Algarve)

If you've never been here, this summer is a must-see. In our opinion, it is the most similar that Portugal has when compared to those paradisiacal islands in the Indian Ocean.

When there are few people, then this paradise is almost all for you.    And i'm good!

Praia da Física (Santa Cruz)

Praia da Física is located in Santa Cruz, between Lisbon and Peniche.  It has some rock formations and next to them you can visit other interesting beaches, such as Praia do Pisão or Praia do Mirante.

It is quite popular in the surfing community, so you will find a school of this modality, as well as a restaurant-accommodation entirely dedicated to this activity, noah, which serves the freshest fish there is on this coast.

Caneiros Beach (Algarve)

One of the beaches chosen by The Guardian was this Praia dos Caneiros, in the center of the Algarve.

Near Ferragudo, it is a very quiet beach, with calm and very clean waters, and with a beach bar, the King of Beaches, which will make all the difference when you visit it next summer.

Caneiros is covered by the traditional yellowish cliffs that run almost all the Algarve coast, which translates much of its beauty.

Zambujeira do Mar (Alentejo)

The Guardian has selected one of the best known beaches of the Costa Vicentina, Zambujeira do Mar, one of the places of choice of those who love the Alentejo to spend the summer holidays.

The sea is a bit rough, but the surrounding landscape, full of cliffs and green areas that can be used for walking and hiking, are some of the reasons why it is also one of our favorite Portuguese beaches.

And, since we are in alentejo, it is the best excuse to taste some of the delicacies of this area of the country, in addition to the always fresh fish that this sea offers us.

Bicas Beach (Sesimbra)

Just over 40 minutes from Lisbon, more precisely in Sesimbra, is the last beach selected by The Guardian, on its list of the 40 best beaches in Europe to visit in 2022.

It is next to the Serra da Arrábida and is known for offering white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, although a little cold.

Praia das Bicas gets a little more wind and, therefore, is one of the beaches of this area most popular with surfers.

If you decide to stay there for a few days, Villa Epicurea is the eco-friendly nore of choice, with yoga classes, an infinity pool and a delicious vegan and vegetarian menu.
